Grants available for AFV projects

This years Request for Proposals (RFP) from U.S. Department of Energy for the (2004) State Energy Program is out. Approximately $ 5 million is available for Clean Cities Special Projects through the Florida Energy Office under this program. To qualify for Special Projects grants, you must be a member of a designated Clean Cities Coalition. Last year, SC3 was awarded a $10,000 grant to upgrade the card reader on the Titusville CNG fueling station.

Proposals are being developed and written by members under Clean Cities/Alternative Fuels topic. Proposals are due in February to the Florida Energy Office. The Clean Cities/Alternative Fuels topic had four topics dealing with infrastructure, vehicles, school buses and coalition support. Stakeholders interested on participating should contact Bill Young for more information and application forms.

Clean Air Award

The Central Florida Clean Air Team sponsors an annual awards program to raise awareness of air quality issues by showcasing best practices or new technology being developed or utilized by companies in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. SC3 is a member of the Clean Air Team.

This years winner was University of Central Florida for a new student shuttle bus program to reduce air pollution. The program keep 4,000 vehicles off the campus and local street by providing students with a free shuttle service. The service operates five days a week funded by activity fees. Do you need something to read?

Florida Solar Energy Center with assistance from our coalition wrote three new documents on AFV technology at the direction of the Clean Fuels Florida Advisory Board. The three different documents are written for three different audiences to provide AFV education to generate awareness and promote implementation of AFVs in Florida. The documents were designed to be used by fleet managers, businesses, educational institutions, students, government organizations and the general public. The documents are as follows:

  • Take a Trip to Clean Air: coloring book on AFVs
