8th National Clean Cities
Conference
This
year's National Clean Cities Conference is from May 12 to
15 in Oklahoma City, OK. Where the spirit of Oklahoma's
Land Run brought romantic ideas to the ever growing frontier
of Alternative Fuel Vehicles.
The
conference will be held in the Myriad Convention Center
with technical sessions and exhibits. Many of the auto manufacturers
will be there to showcase and give rides in their latest
alternative fueled vehicles. You can register on-line or
by fax, but don't delay.
The
official hotel is the Westin Oklahoma City and Renaissance
Oklahoma City Hotel. Enjoy the convenience of shuttles,
taxis, and mass transit services that will take you from
the airport to the hotel or convention center. For additional
information, visit: www.ccities.doe.gov/conference.shtml
or call the Clean Cities hotline at 1-800-ccities (224-8437).
Put
your thinking cap on for new projects.
The
State Energy Program FY 2002 Special Project announcements
will be out in January. U.S. Department of Energy has made
available through the Florida Energy Office funds for alternative
fuel vehicle projects through Clean Cities Coalitions. There
is 3.8 million dollars available to members of coalition
in five categories: Niche vehicle markets, AFV refueling
infrastructure, AFV school buses, and coordinator. Space
Coast Coalition Members must submit proposals to the coordinator
and the Board of Directors to request approval for proposals.
PDF copies of the application forms can be downloaded from
the following address: http://www.eren.doe.gov/buildings/state_energy/pdfs/special_projects_02.pdf.
For help in completing proposals and letter of recommendation
contact Coalition Coordinator, Bill
Young at (321) 638-1443.
When
do we meet?
In
the past our coalition has held regular membership meetings
monthly, quarterly and when ever. At the last regular meeting
on December 5, members discussed the frequency and schedule
of regular membership meetings. It was decided to have quarterly
meeting for the coming year on the following dates:
January 30
April 24
July 24
October 23
As
usual, check our coalition calendar for scheduled events
and meetings, and please put these new meeting dates on
your schedule.
There
is a new vehicle in town.
Ford
Motor Company has loaned the coalition a Think Mobility
electric bike. It is a zero-emission one passenger vehicle
with only two wheels. The bike was designed for police use
to patrol streets faster to help keep neighborhoods safe.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has been using
several of the bikes daily since October 2001. It is on
display at the Florida Solar Energy Center and was recently
use in the Cocoa Christmas Parade.
Remember
Rebates!
There
is still $10,000 in rebate funds available from our coalition
for the purchase of new AFVs. See the Summer 2000 newsletter
for more information.
Members,
Be on Notice!
It
is that time of year again. What time of year do you say
it is. Time for payment of membership dues. See How to Join
on our home page for more information.
Also,
election of officers will be coming soon, so please start
thinking about it.
National
AFV Day Odyssey

from across the country are holding workshop for this national
event. The local event is being hosted by Traviss Technical
Center and Space Coast Clean Cities Coalition.
There
will be presentations on alternative fuel vehicles and fueling
stations, exhibits displaying the latest technologies and
a form to discuss issues. All interested parties are welcome.
For more information check the SC3

AFV
Implementation Plan
In
the process of becoming designated in the DOE Clean Cities
Program, a Program Plan is developed that delineates the
vision, goals, and objectives of the Coalition. The coalition
is now developing an Implementation Plan based on our Program
Plan.
The
AFV Implementation Plan would serve as a tool to seek funding
and political support as well as a coordination tool among
the relevant stakeholders. The plan will demonstrate reasonable
AFV fleet acquisition and logical fueling station infrastructure
implementation schedule.
This
plan is being completed by county with Brevard County being
developed first until all nine counties are complete. A
lead plan developer is needed for each county, if you are
interested please call the Coalition Chairman, Addisson
Bain, at (321) 254-1554.
