Lets
us all wish our new officers a successful 2001 year.
Another
year of progress
It
has been two years since Space Coast Coalition was designated
the 75th Clean Cities Coalition on October 1, 1999. Since
then membership has grown from 42 to 58 stakeholders signing
MOUs, new officers were elected to the Board, and five new
Board of Director positions were created. The coordinator
position has been funded for another year allowing the Florida
Solar Energy Center to continue their coordination efforts.
Over
a hundred AFVs were add to the existing fleets of General
Services Administration, Florida Department of Transportation
and other coalition members. The AFV rebate program was
funded again to the tune of $10,000 for the purchase of
new AFVs by coalition members. Along with new vehicles,
infrastructure advances within the coalition include a new
compress natural gas fueling station in Titusville and another
ethanol fueling station soon to be located at the Kennedy
Space Center.
Happy
anniversary and congratulations on another prosperous year
for the coalition.
There
is a new vehicle in town
What
new vehicle?
A Toyota Rav4 Electric Vehicle...
Where is it?
At the Florida Solar Energy
Center...
Who has it?
Space Coast Clean Cities Coordinator...
Where did it come from?
The 7th National Clean Cities
Conference...
At the recent National Clean Cities Conference held in
Philadelphia, several Coalitions were selected to demonstrate
and evaluate various alternative fuel vehicles for one year.
The Department of Energy and several auto manufactures joined
forces to provide a limited number of coalition coordinators
with AFVs to evaluate first hand and use in coalition outreach
activities. Our coalition was one of ten coalitions selected
to demonstrate a Toyota Rav4 Electric Vehicle under a no
cost lease agreement to the coalition, thanks to Toyota.
The coalition coordinator is to report to Toyota and DOE
on the performance of the vehicle in coalition activities.
The vehicle is an SUV, remanufactured by Toyota as an electric
vehicle. It does highway speeds and has a range of 80-90
miles. The vehicle comes with all of the usual comforts
of conventional gasoline cars.
The vehicle is on display at the Florida Solar Energy Center,
the home of Space Coast Clean Cities Coalition. The vehicle
is available for demonstration at conferences, exhibits,
workshops, fairs and other events. For further information
contact Bill Young (321) 638-1443.
