DEDICATED ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLE REBATE
PROGRAM
Hard work pays off, as Space Coast Coalition is awarded
a $30,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Last
March, the Coalition submitted a proposal to participate
in Clean Cities Dedicated Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate
Program and won. The program goal is to provide a rebate
of $2,000 for each dedicated alternative fuel vehicle (AFV)
purchased to increase the concentration of AFVs in designated
Clean Cities Coalition regions. This will stimulate investment
in alternative fuel vehicle refueling infrastructure and
the manufacture of original equipment manufacture (OEM)
vehicles. The objective of the project is to displace petroleum,
reduce dependence on foreign oil, and reduce vehicle emissions.
The
$2,000 rebates cover the average incremental cost for new
dedicated AFV acquisitions. The three year program provides
$10,000 per year, equating to 5 new vehicles purchased within
the Coalition each year. The rebates are for anyone who
purchases an AFV, except Federal and State government agencies,
and utilities/fuel providers who are required by the Energy
Policy Act of 1992 to acquire AFVs.
What
kinds of vehicles qualify?
Dedicated - The vehicle must be 100% dependent
upon the use of an alternative fuel. Acceptable alternative
fuels in this rebate program include Compressed Natural
Gas (CNG), Propane and Electricity.
New - The vehicle must be purchased as a new
vehicle from a participating dealership.
OEM - The vehicle must be original equipment
from the manufacture, with a standard warranty. Vehicles
that have been converted to alternative fuel are not eligible.
Street Legal - The vehicle must be street legal
and capable of reaching all speeds in either city or highway
driving.
Car or light duty truck - The vehicle must be
either a car or a light duty truck or van. Electric bikes/motorcycles
and medium/heavy duty trucks are not eligible.
